2 men who hurled chairs during basketball game apologize to Mayor Biazon; 2 more summoned
Two men in their early 20s who hurled monoblock chairs at referees during a Muntinlupa inter-barangay basketball championship game went to Mayor Ruffy Biazon to ask for forgiveness.
The first of three championship games between Barangays Bayanan and Cupang under the La Liga de Muntinlupa Basketball Tournament 2024 was held on July 5 at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.

However, the game turned into chaos when a player and a referee had a confrontation. The crowd and players joined the melee and attacked the referees.
Several people hurled monoblock chairs while others threw water bottles. Some of those in the crowd and the players chased the referees.
The chaos resulted in the ban from the ongoing tournament of Barangay Bayanan of player Kean Baclaan, who also plays for the De La Salle Green Archers, and four others “for physically attacking and disrespecting game officials.”

Also banned in the 2024 La Liga tournament were Barangay Bayanan team players Ram Panganiban, Alfie Silva, and Jayson Tugonon, and coach Hansel Baclaan Malate.
In addition, officials investigated the hurling of monoblock chairs at the referees.
Biazon earlier gave an ultimatum to those who were involved to come and see him. Several videos taken by the crowd during the game showed several people hurling monoblock chairs.
On July 8, two of those who were involved in the chair-hurling went to Biazon.
“Humarap sa akin at humingi ng tawad ang dalawa sa mga nambato ng silya sa mga referee noong championship game ng inter-barangay basketball tournament (Two of those who hurled chairs at referees during the championship game of the inter-barangay basketball tournament faced me and asked for forgiveness),” Biazon said in a Facebook post.
He added, “Mabuti naman at tumugon sila sa panawagan ko matapos ang nangyaring gulo sa Muntinlupa Sports Center (It was good thing that they heeded my call after the mess at the Muntinlupa Sports Center).”
Biazon said he lectured the two for what they did.
“Sabi ko magbago na sila at huwag magpapadala sa init ng ulo. Walang saysay ang magmatapang lalo na kung biglang nakatapat sila ng mas matapang o halang ang bituka. Sila lang din ang pwede mapahamak (I told them to change and to rein in their temper. There is no sense to being brave especially if they face someone who is braver or with no conscience. They will be in danger),” he said.
Biazon told the two to ask forgiveness from the basketball organizing committee and officials.
The two will undergo community service as a penalty for what they did.
In addition, Biazon is calling on two more men who were involved in the violence during the game.
The mayor said one man also hurled a monoblock chair while another punched a referee at the back of the head.
He is giving them until July 10, Wednesday, to see him.
