The executive and the legislature must prioritize measures that seek to lower fuel prices for the sake of ordinary Filipinos.
Thus, said House Deputy Minority Leader ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro even as another round of price hikes for the commodity loomed.
"With the aim of lowering oil prices in the country, Malacañang should certify as urgent the 'Lower Oil Prices Bill Package,'" Castro said Monday, July 8.
"This package includes critical measures such as House Bill (HB) No. 400 or the Lower Oil Price Bill, HB No.3003 to renationalize Petron, HB No.3004 to unbundle oil prices, HB No.3005 for centralized procurement of petroleum, and HB No 3006 to regulate the downstream oil industry."
The Makabayan solon emphasized the potential impact of these bills. "This bills package, when made into law, can lower oil prices, cause a domino effect in lowering basic products and services, and at least alleviate the suffering of consumers."
The lady lawmaker noted that the continuous fuel price hikes has far-reaching consequences on the economy and the daily lives of Filipinos.
"As we face the fourth consecutive week of increases in pump prices, it's clear that urgent action is needed. These price hikes don't just affect transportation; they inflate the costs of basic goods and services, further burdening our already struggling populace," she said.
Castro called on the government to take decisive action on the urgent matter. "Malacañang and the House leadership must prioritize these measures. There are numerous House bills just waiting to be acted upon. It's time to stop the runaway oil prices and provide real relief to our people."
"Every day of inaction means another day of hardship for ordinary Filipinos. We cannot afford to delay these crucial reforms any longer," she said.
