Fire hits military camp in Borongan City

TACLOBAN CITY â€“ A fire hit the camp of the 78th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Lalawigan, Borongan City, Eastern Samar on Sunday, July 7.

Brig. Gen. Noel Vestuir, commander of the 802nd Infantry Brigade, stated that faulty wiring caused the fire.

No injuries were reported as most of the troops were deployed to operations at the time.

At least two barracks were damaged, along with some firearms, ammunition, and personal belongings of soldiers.

Vestuir assured the public that the ongoing operations would not be affected by the fire.

"We will be constructing temporary barracks for them. In the meantime, we will be searching for a shelter where they can rest," he added.

Damage to property was placed at over â‚±4.2 million.
