President Marcos said he was looking forward to working with the new British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and strengthening the ties between the Philippines and the United Kingdom.

Marcos said this after the Labour leader was elected as the UK's new prime minister on July 5, replacing Conservative Rishi Sunak.
In an X post, the President extended his well-wishes to the new British leader as he expressed his desire to work with his government.
"On behalf of the Philippines, I extend my warmest congratulations to the Labour Party and Keir Starmer," he wrote.
"We wish the new government success and look forward to further strengthening our deep and longstanding ties," he added.

"This is a difficult day, but I leave this job honored to have been prime minister of the best country in the world," Sunak said in his farewell address.
Starmer met Charles in Buckingham Palace where the British Monarch asked him to form a new administration.
"The King received in Audience The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP today and requested him to form a new Administration," the Royal Family's X post read.
"Sir Keir accepted His Majesty's offer and was appointed Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury," it furthered.
In another X post, Starmer vowed to serve the British people.
"My government will serve you. Politics can be a force for good. The work of change begins today," he wrote.
The official X account of the UK Prime Minister said Prime Minister Starmer has spoken to international allies and partners within his first few hours in office.
"The UK stands ready to continue to work with them to deliver security and growth at home and abroad," it wrote.
