ITCZ, easterlies to bring scattered rains over parts of the Philippines
Two rain-bearing weather systems will continue to affect parts of the country in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, July 7.
PAGASA said the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Western Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula.
The ITCZ is where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres converge, leading to the formation of rain-bearing clouds.
PAGASA said cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may also affect the Bicol Region, Aurora, and Quezon due to the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, known as the easterlies.
It warned that areas affected by the ITCZ and easterlies may experience flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.
PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.
Based on the PAGASA’s forecast for July 8, the likelihood of rainfall across select key cities is the following: Metro Manila (40 percent), Laoag City (40 percent), Baguio City (60 percent), Legazpi City (60 percent), Puerto Princesa City (30 percent), Metro Cebu (70 percent), Bacolod City (60 percent), Cagayan de Oro City (70 percent), Metro Davao (60 percent), and Zamboanga City (70 percent).
