EU envoy bids farewell with food memories of PH

With his tour of duty coming to an end, European Union Ambassador to the Philippines Luc Veron wrapped up his #MeriendaNiLuc series as he tried a fusion of French-Filipino crepe and some local delicacies from Tacloban City.

His first despedida was hosted by French Ambassador to Manila Marie Fontanel and the French Embassy, who found local restaurant Crepe Glazik that serves authentic French crepes right at the heart of Makati City.
 

“Merci beaucoup @FrenchEmbassyPH and my fellow Breton, @MarieFontanelPH for hosting my 1st despedida today!,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
 

“French flair meets local (Filipino) flavor in these delicious crepes with chocolate and Davao mango from Crêpe Glazik. O Breizh, ma Bro, me ‘gar ma Bro! #MeriendaNiLuc,” he added, referring to his popular “Merienda Ni Luc” series where he sampled local Pinoy snacks.
 

The ambassador shared photos of him diving into the crepes made by a Filipino-French couple.
 

Over the weekend, the ambassador also celebrated with his office colleagues, who surprised him with a cake from a well-known local bakeshop.
 

“What a lovely surprise from my colleagues at @EUinthePH! This is my last time celebrating at the office so sharing cake with everyone feels all the more special. Maraming salamat sa inyong pagbati (Thank you for your greetings)!,” he said, while posting some group photos of the celebration with his office staff. 
 

As part of a series of exit calls he would make to Philippine officials, Veron made his first farewell courtesy call to Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., whom he thanked for the stronger relationship between the Philippines and EU.
 

“Kicked off the first of my farewell courtesy calls last Tuesday with @dndphl! Thankful to Sec. Gilberto C. Teodoro, Jr. and the department for the enhanced partnership during my tenure, and hopeful to continue our collaborations on peace and security. #PaalamNiLuc,” he posted on Friday, July 5.
 

But the envoy’s farewell wouldn’t be complete without tasting another traditional Pinoy snack—local delicacies from Tacloban City.

“Enjoyed a taste of Tacloban with these special treats from @NiaChua13! This was perfect to pair with my morning cup of coffee today. Thank you, Nia for your kind words and avid support for #MeriendaNiLuc,” Veron said in a post accompanied by a video of him dipping the biscuits into his coffee.
 

Over the years, the envoy had been an avid fan of Filipino delicacies. Some of his the snacks he tried were the kwek-kwek, kikiam, chickenballs, pili nuts, peach mango pie, Choc Nut, and taho, among others.
