Marcos said all aspects of the major infrastructure undertaking, including a P100-million allocation, are being mapped out so that construction can start sooner.

“Kasabay ng pagbibigay namin ng ayuda ay ang magandang balita tungkol sa ating pagsusulong para sa Jolo Airport Development Project (Along with the distribution of assistance is a good news about pushing for the Jolo Airport Development) ,” Marcos said during the distribution of assistance to farmers and fisherfolk in the province on Friday, July 5.

“Kasalukuyan na po nating binabalangkas ang lahat ng kinakailangan para masimulan na ang proyektong ito at may nakahanda po tayong isandaang milyong piso na para pagsimulan nitong project na ito (We are currently mapping out everything we need in order to start implementing this project, and we have an available P100 million to start the project),” he added.

The Jolo airport project includes the construction of the airport’s Passenger Terminal Building, perimeter fence, administration building, relocation/construction of fire station building, site acquisition for its runway extension, and correction of runway strip width.

According to the Malacañang, the processing of the Memorandum of Agreement with the provincial government for project implementation is ongoing.

During the President's first visit in Sulu, he led the turnover of PP10 million to the Provincial Government of Sulu intended for El Niño-hit farmers and fisherfolk in the province.

Government data showed the dry spell destroyed more than P5.3 million crops in the province, causing losses to some 912 farmers.

Last April, 19 municipalities of the province were placed under state of calamity in response to the weather phenomenon.

With the onset of the rainy season, Sulu is expected to experience almost normal rainfall levels from July to October this year.
