The family was heading to a wake in Talisay City when they met the accident in Sitio Nangka past 9 p.m.

Killed were Kathleen Pardillo, 12, and her nine-year-old sister Yuhan. Their mother, Cherry Fe, was in critical condition, police said.

Cherry Fe’s husband, Herman, 47, and their other daughter Catriona, 5, were injured.

Police said Hernan was driving the motorcycle with his wife and three children as back riders.

Police Capt. Joel dela Cerna said Hernan was negotiating a downhill portion of the road when the motorcycle brake failed.

Hernan lost control and the motorcycle hit a gutter. The impact threw the family off the motorcycle.

Kathleen and Yuhan were declared at the Talisay City District Hospital where Hernan and Catriona are recuperating.

Cherry Fe was transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center here due to her critical condition.

It was not the first time that an accident happened in the area. “It is an accident-prone area. It’s very downhill and several motorists had common complaints that the brakes of their vehicles would malfunction when negotiating in that place,” Dela Cerna said.
