'Worth every second': Marcos hails Gilas Pilipinas for historic Olympic qualifiers win

The Philippine national basketball team—Gilas Pilipinas— received well wishes from President Marcos after pulling off an upset against the world's no.6 Latvia in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

"64 years in the making and worth every second!" Marcos said on Facebook on Thursday, July 4.

"Congratulations to Gilas Pilipinas for their victory against world number 6, Latvia, at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament," he added.

"We are all cheering you on from home—let’s shoot for Paris Olympics! Good luck!" he further said.

Gilas pulled off the biggest upset of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament by defeating host and world No.6 Latvia with a historic 89-80 victory to open its 2024 Paris Game bid.
