Scattered rains to persist in Palawan, eastern Mindanao due to 2 weather systems — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned of potential flash floods or landslides in Palawan and eastern Mindanao due to two rain-bearing weather systems affecting these areas.

PAGASA in its weather bulletin on Thursday, July 4, said Palawan will experience cloudy weather with scattered light to heavy rains and thunderstorms due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ)—a convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres where rain-bearing clouds form.

The warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, also known as “easterlies,” will also bring scattered light to heavy rains and thunderstorms to Caraga and Davao regions.

Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may affect Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, Bicol Region, and Eastern Visayas due to easterlies.

The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also advised the public to remain vigilant as flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Based on the PAGASA’s forecast for July 5, the likelihood of rainfall across select key cities is the following: Metro Manila (70 percent), Laoag City (10 percent), Baguio City (40 percent), Legazpi City (80 percent), Puerto Princesa City (40 percent), Metro Cebu (40 percent), Bacolod City (90 percent), Cagayan de Oro City (90 percent), Metro Davao (60 percent), and Zamboanga City (60 percent).
