FedEx upgrades Clark facilities for SMEs, heavy shippers

Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) facilities in Clark, Pampanga, will soon be upgraded to boost support for imports and exports from small and medium enterprises and heavy-weight shippers.

FedEx has signed an agreement with Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD), operator and manager of Clark International Airport, to expand and upgrade the company’s gateway in the city.

These facilities include aprons and taxiways that will facilitate FedEx operations, enable better cargo handling, and foster growth in the logistics sector, the transport firm said.

It said the facilities will offer enhanced capabilities to benefit local businesses looking to amplify their presence in international markets and support the growing demand for e-commerce, freight, and cold-chain shipments across the Asia Pacific region.

It also aligned with the government’s goal to transform the Clark International Airport into a premier global civil aviation logistics hub for international cargo. It is expected to bring economic benefits to the northern Luzon region and provide job opportunities for the local community.

“We are pleased to sign this agreement that symbolizes our intent to kick-start the expansion of our gateway at Clark,” said Maribeth Espinosa, managing director of FedEx Philippines.

“Since our establishment in 1984 in the Philippines, we remain committed to continuously enhancing our network and service offerings to support the growing needs of our customers and strengthen their connection to overseas markets. This expansion is a testament to our strong commitment to facilitating cross-border trade and optimizing the country’s supply chain capabilities,” she added.

For Noel Manankil, president and chief executive officer of LIPAD, the agreement signifies their commitment to fostering development and economic vitality in the region.

In 2021, FedEx unveiled its 17,000-square-meter facility gateway in Clark. This gateway can sort up to 9,000 parcels per hour, while its dedicated freight-handling area spans 630 square meters.

Last year, FedEx launched a new flight service between Vietnam and the Philippines with improved transit time to support the growth in trade volumes between both markets.

“As FedEx celebrates its 40th anniversary in the Philippines, the company continues to offer products and services that provide convenience for customers,” the firm said.

The signing ceremony was attended by Joshua Bingcang, president and CEO of Bases Conversion and Development Authority; Arrey Perez, president of Clark International Airport Corporation; and Noelle Meneses, vice president for Business Development and Business Enhancement, Clark Development Corporation.
