China says it is 'not a threat to any country' amid hypersonic missile claim from Imee
China has said it is not a threat to any country following a claim from Senator Imee Marcos that around two dozen hypersonic missiles from China are targeted towards the Philippines.
While China does not pose any threat and "is committed to peaceful development," Mao Ning, spokesperson for its Foreign Ministry, maintained that Beijing's national defense policy "is defensive in nature."
"That said, we will certainly not sit by and watch when our legitimate rights and interests and regional peace and stability are being violated or under threat," Mao added.
In a recent Facebook post, Marcos claimed that China is targeting to send hypersonic missiles to 25 areas in the country, with Batanes, Subic and the Ilocos Region as initial targets.
The Philippine military responded to Marcos' claim by saying it is ready to coordinate with the lawmaker to get more details about it.
Mao said that China is rather urging "relevant country to listen to the concerns its people have and the call from other countries in the region."
She also said that relevant countries must "bear in mind the fundamental interests of its own people, stay independent, good-neighborliness and friendship, earnestly respect other countries’ security concerns, and act to keep the region peaceful and stable."
