BSP warns against people pretending to be its officials

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has raised a red flag on the proliferation of scams involving individuals and groups falsely claiming to be associated with the central bank.

In a statement, the BSP said these fraudulent entities have been observed leveraging central bank officers’ names, signatures, and official insignia to deceive unsuspecting individuals.

According to the BSP, this is done through various channels such as letters, emails, messages, websites, and social media platforms.

The aim is to extract personal and financial information to perpetrate scams and other fraudulent activities, the central bank said.

In response to this alarming trend, the BSP is advising the public to exercise vigilance and refrain from sharing sensitive information with these dubious entities.

Individuals are also cautioned against sending money to unverified or suspicious sources.

“The act of misrepresenting the BSP or any of its officers or units is punishable under the law,” the central bank said.

The BSP is urging the public to verify the legitimacy of any communication purportedly coming from central bank representatives and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the following contact information:
