The Philippine Blu Girls blew a three-run lead after imploding in the last four innings and absorbed a painful 4-3 defeat to Israel in the Canada Cup International Softball Championship in Surrey, British Columbia on Thursday, July 4.
Up 3-0 after three and a half innings, the Cebuana Lhuillier-backstopped Blu Girls went on a downward spiral after conceding a three-run homer to the Israelis in the bottom fourth that knotted the count at three runs each.
And a disastrous bottom seventh allowed Israel to steal the deciding run via a second-base walk off and the match.
That sent the Filipinas to their second straight defeat after starting the tournament with two wins in a row while the Israelis improved to 2-1.
The Blu Girls downed Hong Kong and New Zealand via 5-1 results before succumbing to the host Canadians, 12-0, the day before.
Despite the loss, the country still has a chance of making the playoff round since the top four teams in the two groups advance to that stage.
But to achieve it, the Ana Santiago-mentored belles would need to hurdle the Mexicans in a critical duel on Friday, July 5.
