2 children drown in Ilocos Norte fishpond

BATAC CITY, Ilocos Norte â€“ Two cousins drowned in a fishpond in Barangay 20-N Colo, this city, on Wednesday, July 3.

Police identified the victims as Janice, 14, student, and cousin Jamel, 8, an elementary pupil.

Investigation said the victims and their grandmother, Diolita Mariano, 49, were picking snails around the fish pond.

The victims attempted to measure the depth of the fishpond but they slipped and drowned.

Rescuers retrieved the victims and taken to the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center where they were declared dead.
