TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – The Department of Health (DOH) logged a nine percent increase in dengue cases in Region 2 or Cagayan Valley from January to July 20 compared to the same period last year.

A senior health officer of the DOH-Region 2 said 3,115 dengue cases were recorded from January to July 20, 254 higher than the 2,861 in the first seven months last year.
The province of Nueva Vizcaya had 1,382 cases, Cagayan second with 688, Isabela, 597; Quirino, 325; Santiago City, Isabela, 119, and four in Batanes.
There were seven fatalities – four from Isabela, two from Cagayan, and one from Nueva Vizcaya.
The DOH warned the people that the number of dengue cases in the region could increase with the opening of the new school year.
"One of the modes of transmission that we get is not only the breeding site, but also the mobility of the students where the infection can be passed from one individual to another," the DOH said.
