Rape suspect shot dead in encounter with cops

CEBU CITY – A 33-year-old man who allegedly raped the sister of his live-in partner was killed in an encounter with the police in Argao town, southern Cebu on Tuesday, July 30.

A 21-year-old woman reported to the police that she was sexually abused by the suspect at around 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police went to the suspect’s house at 8 a.m. Lawmen arrived and saw the suspect holding a knife.

The suspect was asked to surrender but ran inside the house and took a bolo.

Instead of surrendering, the suspect hacked responding police officer Police Staff Sgt. Anthony Deiparine.

The lawman fell to the ground but the suspect continued attacking Deiparine, prompting his colleagues to open fire.

Deiparine was wounded in the arms after he tried to parry the blows.

The suspect was brought to the Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital in Argao where he was declared dead.
