Davao City 1st district Rep. Paolo Duterte has responded with what can be charitably described as "choice words" to former senator Antonio "Sonny" Trillanes IV after the latter filed a P6.4-billion drug smuggling charge against him.
"I welcome Antonio Trillanes' plan to file a drug smuggling case against me. This is a welcome development, mas maganda ito dahil sa Korte ng Pilipinas ang pagdinig at hindi sa korte ng Facebook at utak ng isang trililing na sundalong kanin," Rep. Duterte said in a statement Wednesday afternoon, July 31.
(This is better because the trial will be held in a Philippine court, not in the court of Facebook and within the mind of a crazed, pathetic soldier.)
Trillanes is a former Philippine Navy lieutenant. He is a leader of the Magdalo group.
"This move will allow us to address these accusations through the proper legal channels, ensuring that the truth will prevail," Rep. Duterte, son of former president Rodrigo Duterte, said.
"I have always maintained my innocence, and I am confident that the judicial process will clear my name. It is important to rely on our legal institutions rather than resorting to trial by publicity or baseless allegations," he added.
The second-term congressman and former deputy speaker further assailed the drug smuggling case as well as the plaintiff.
"Please bear in mind that this is the similar case that Mr. Trillanes has made a fool out of himself when he presented his alleged evidences (sic) against me....as a mercenary. I am not surprised who Mr. Trillanes has once again fooled to fund this desperate attempt to peddle this baseless story to the Filipino people," he said.
"I also look forward to the resolution of the libel cases I filed against him,” Rep. Duterte said.
