President Marcos said that he would ask Filipino two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo about what the government could do to increase the country's odds of getting more gold medals from the coveted sporting event.

In a media interview in Masantol, Pampanga on Wednesday morning, Aug. 7, the President said the Golden Boy was the best person to ask for advice regarding the country's participation in the Olympics.

"Pagka nagkita kami itatanong ko sa kanya kung ano pa ang maitutulong ng pamahalaan para mas dumami ang ating mga medalists sa Olympics (When we meet, I will ask him what else can the government offer to our athletes so we can have more Olympic medals)," he told reporters.

"Nadaanan niya lahat 'yan (He's been through it all). He went to the Tokyo Olympics. He has now won his two gold medals in the Paris Olympics kaya't kung ano pa ang aming gagawin (so what else should the government do)," he added.

Marcos said this as Filipino boxer Aira Villegas took home the bronze medal in the ongoing Paris Olympics, making the country's current medal tally to three following Yulo's two golden victories over the weekend.

The Chief Executive emphasized his desire for Filipino athletes to bring home more medals.

"Ang interest ko dumami ang medalists kagaya niya. Anong kailangan gawin (My interest is in increasing our medal haul. What should we do)?" he asked.

"Do we have to change the organization? Does it need to be funded?" he added.

Meanwhile, the President said the celebrated gymnast deserves everything he has been offered for earning the Philippines two more Olympic gold medals. The first was weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"He deserves everything that anybody is willing to give him," Marcos said.

"I think he will continue to greater heights in sport dahil matagal na siyang world champion (he's been a world champion for a long time)," he added.

Asked if the Office of the President (OP) will be giving Yulo an additional cash incentive, Marcos said, "Why not, yeah. I don't see why not."

"He has already P20 million. Hindi na siguro siya mangangailangan ng pera (I don't think he needs more money)," he added.

Under Republic Act (RA) No. 10699, a Filipino athlete will receive P10 million from the government for each gold medal won in the Olympics.
