Drug pusher killed during gun scuffle in Lucena City


LUCENA CITY, Quezon – A suspected drug pusher died after he was accidentally shot by a police officer during a gun scuffle in Barangay Ibabang Dupay, this city, on Tuesday, July 30.

Police identified the victim as Inan, 38, of Barangay Ibabang Iyam here.

Investigation said lawmen served a warrant of arrest dated April 15, 2024 against the suspect for drug-related charges issued by Judge Julieta Fabon Fabrero, presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court Branch 168 here.

Inan allegedly grabbed the service firearm of an arresting officer – Police Corporal Obciana – while on their way to the police station.

The incident resulted in a scuffle where the gun went off and the suspect was inadvertently shot in the abdomen.

The suspect was taken to the Quezon Medical Center here where he was declared dead.

Police said no case will be filed against the suspect due to his death.

Meanwhile, a man and woman were killed on the Eco-Tourism Road in Barangay Bignay 1, Sariaya, this province, on Wednesday night, July 30.

Police identified the victims as Michelle, 35, and Limuel, residents of Barangay Bignay 1.

Investigation said the victims were on board a tricycle toward Barangay Guis Guis Talo here when
an unidentified gunman shot them in the area.

The victims died on the spot and the suspect fled.

A 57-year-old man was stabbed to death by his drinking buddy in Sitio 2, Barangay Oogong, Santa Cruz, Laguna at dawn on Wednesday, July 30.

The victim was identified as Joaquin Terrencio Balatian.

The suspect fled and the victim was taken to a hospital where he died.

Police are conducting follow-up operations on these two cases.
