Cynthia Villar mulls gunning for Las Piñas mayoral post in 2025

Outgoing Senator Cynthia Villar has revealed that she is planning to run as mayor of Las Piñas City.

"Gusto ko mag-mayor...Wala lang tingin ko malaki ang maitutulong ko sa Las Piñas (I want to be mayor...I just think I can do a lot for Las Piñas," she told reporters on Wednesday, July 31.

Villar is set to finish her term in the Senate by 2025. She mentioned that in turn, her daughter Camille has agreed to run for Senate.

However, his son, Senator Mark Villar, and her husband, former Senate President Manny Villar, is more keen on having her secure a seat in the House of Representatives.

"Gusto ni Manny ako kasi nga wala na sa Congress si Camille (Manny wants me to be in the Congress since Camille is leaving)," she said.

Yet, she said that this is something that they will discuss further, but as of now, she's more keen on being mayor of Las Piñas.

"Alam mo minsan pag nagde-decide kayo (Sometimes when you decide), you decide in a manner na parang (that is) wise. You make wise decisions. May mga (There are) pros and cons, you weigh that saka ka nagde-decide (then you will decide). Di naman kami (We're not) emotional about this," she said.

Villar said that she'll decide on this by October, the date set for the filing of Certificate of Candidacy (COC). She stated that someone already "volunteered" to be her running mate but she did not disclose his or her identity.

If Villar would push through with seeking a mayoral position, she would run against her niece, Las Piñas Vice Mayor April Aguilar. She also mentioned that she would not reach out to Aguilar and tell her to back out.

"Di kasi ako kumakausap nang ganon eh. Maski yung kumakausap sakin di ko kinakausap. Lumapit sila sa akin. Hindi ako lalapit sa kanila (I don't really do something like that. Even those who join I don't talk them into doint it. They should be the ones to talk to me. I will not be the one to approach them)," she said.

Asked if her husband has any plans to return to politics, she replied: "Not in his wildest imaginations."
