Police identified the suspects as "Vong,” 38; “Su,” 30; “Nguyen,” 27; “Chong,” 31; and “Lam,” 31.
Based on the police report, the suspects were caught transferring cryptocurrency amounting to $45,000 from a financial company’s Imtoken e-wallet to another account they have created.
"The company confirmed the illegal transaction, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspects and recovery of the online transaction receipt," the SPD said.
Authorities explained that the suspects had access to the company's online account as financial staff, and the stolen e-money was intended for the company's operational funds.
The suspects were charged for violating Article 310 of the Revised Penal Code (qualified theft) in relation to Republic Act 10175 (Anti-Cybercrime Act of 2012).
They are now under the custody of the Makati City Police Station pending further legal proceedings.
