1 dead, 9 others injured in multiple-vehicle collision in Recto
A 19-year-old man was killed while nine others were injured in a multiple vehicle collision due to a brake malfunction along Recto Avenue in Manila on Monday night, July 29.
The 19-year-old passenger, Jaymar Ponce, was found lying on the pavement by emergency responders and was rushed to the Ospital ng Maynila but was later pronounced dead.
The Manila Police District (MPD) said the 24-year-old jeepney driver, Keith Buenafe, was traveling along westbound outer lane of C.M. Recto on Monday night, July 29, when he experienced a brake malfunction and hit an electric tricycle and a Toyota Hilux.
Two passengers were thrown from the electric tricycle. One of them was Ponce who was dragged under the jeepney.
Due to the strong impact, the electric tricycle hit another electric tricycle and two motorcycles.
Another motorcycle and an Isuzu Elf were hit by the passenger jeepney.
In a closed circuit television (CCTV), the jeepney was seen speeding along Recto Avenue and collided with the vehicles it was passing.

Authorities said eight vehicles were involved in the incident. They said the nine injured patients were given first aid treatment at the scene.
Six of them were admitted to a nearby hospital due to severe fractures and lacerations.
Police said the suspect faces charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide, Multiple Physical Injury, and Damage to Properties.
He was also charged by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for violation of Republic Act 4136 Section 19 (Duty procure license) because he failed to present his driver's license.
