Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera is urging her colleagues in the House of Representatives to rally behind Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara’s plans to improve the welfare and benefits of public school teachers.
In a statement, Herrera says lawmakers should ensure that Angara’s initiatives are adequately funded and implemented.
“Secretary Angara’s commitment to improving the welfare and professional development of our public school teachers is commendable and much needed,” the solon said.
“Our educators are the backbone of our education system, and it is high time we ensure they have the support and resources they need to excel in their roles,” she added.
The newly-installed education chief is eyeing a comprehensive review and simplification of the Results-Based Performance Management System (RPMS), which has long been labeled as additional workload for teachers.
Herrera say this particular directive will finally remove a “significant burden” that has long concerned teachers over its complexity.
“By streamlining the RPMS, we can alleviate the undue stress and administrative workload on our teachers, allowing them to concentrate on their primary role of educating and guiding our students,” she explained.
Secretary Angara is also planning to reduce the non-teaching tasks assigned to teacher--something that will significantly enhance the quality of education, says Herrera.
“Our teachers should be given ample time to mentor and support students, particularly those who require additional guidance,” the lady lawmaker noted.
She pointed out that removing extraneous duties will allow teachers to dedicate more time and effort to the academic and personal development of their students.
“I fully support Secretary Angara’s vision for a more teacher-friendly environment within our public school system. Investing in our teachers is investing in our future,” Herrera emphasized.
The congresswoman hopes that these initiatives will be swiftly enforced.
She hopes that these would pave the way for a more supportive and effective educational environment for teachers and students alike.
