On the day that she celebrated her 14th birth anniversary, the girl’s fervent wish was granted.
The National Bureau of Investigation-Central Visayas (NBI-7) on Tuesday, July 30, arrested a 32-year-old man for repeatedly raping her stepdaughter.
The NBI-7 withheld the names of the suspect and the victim due to the sensitivity of the case.
The suspect, a former Overseas Filipino Worker working as a home-based virtual assistant, was arrested in his house in Talisay City, Cebu.

The end of the abuse came when a concerned citizen sought the help of NBI-7. The informant said the victim is the classmate of her daughter.
The victim had been sharing her ordeal to her classmate.
The girl said her stepdad started raping her when she was eight-years-old. There were instances when the abuses happened while the victim was sleeping beside her siblings.
The victim said the last abuse happened between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. on Friday, July 26.
Acting on the report, the NBI-7, together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas and Talisay City government, rescued the victim.
During the operation, the suspect and a relative arrived and intervened in the law enforcers’ attempt to take custody of the girl.
Because of the girl’s revelation that she was again raped early that day, the NBI-7 decided to arrest the suspect.
Charges for statutory rape have been filed against the suspect.
The NBI-7 was informed that the suspect would physically hit the victim for minor transgressions. The suspect also threatened the victim not to report the abuses or else she would be breaking the family apart.
The girl’s mother, who is in her 30s, refused to comment on the case.
