The PBA’s implementation of the four-point shot as part of an official game got a stamp of approval from no less than the team that first introduced and popularized it during basketball exhibition games.
The Harlem Globetrotters, who are currently in the country for the promotion of the start of the Asian leg of the 2024 World Tour at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Nov. 12, said it was just about time to finally add the four-point line in the game.
“All I can say is it's about time,” said Moose Weekes when asked about the PBA’s four-point shot during a press conference at the Novotel Manila on Monday, July 29.
While the PBA is set to become the first league in the world to introduce the four-point shot in an official game, the Harlem Globetrotters have long been using a four-point shot during their exhibition games since 2016.
The NBA has already explored the addition of a four-point line in the past although exclusively during exhibitions and All-Star games.
The PBA, likewise, only played with a four-point line in the past two editions of the All-Star games before the PBA Board of Governors gave its approval to the implementation following the league’s annual planning in Tokyo last week.
“We introduced that (4-point shot)in 2010 with the spot and now we have the line, so we've been doing this for over a decade. So just to see a professional league to actually add it is amazing. Just shows how far we’ve come,” said Wham Middleton who shared that he once led the Harlem Globetrotters in four-point shooting.
