After succumbing in the extended second set, the Foxies found their rhythm in the fourth and final frames thanks to the timely hits of Colombian reinforcement Yeny Murillo, Trisha Tubu and Ckyle Tagsip who all had key contributions for their first victory in Pool A of the import-laden tournament.
Gaining the much needed momentum, Murillo wanted to rally her teammates and make them better players in the tournament.
“We’ve been working really hard and we’re trying to get in-rhythm with each other and I thought my team needed this win, because my team needs motivation to keep pushing and pushing harder,” Murillo said.
“My team was my motivation to push until the end and keep fighting,” she added.
Murillo topped the scoring department with 29 points off 26 attacks along two blocks and an ace for the Strong Group Athletics-backed squad while Caitlin Viray and Tubu added 18 points apiece.
Tagsip also shone with 15 to give head coach Shota Sato his first win with the Foxies.
After a strong start in the opening set, Farm Fresh lost its steam as Galeries Tower prevailed in the grueling 45-minute second frame where the Colombian outside hitter and Grazielle Bombita exchanged blows for their respective sides.
The High Risers continued to shine in the third, led by veteran Bombita and reinforcement Sutadta Chuewulim, who finished with 19 and 17 points, respectively.
But the tables turned around when Tubu showcased her scoring prowess along with Tagsip down the stretch.
