Carina, habagat aftermath: 3 more people dead as toll hits 39; relief aid distribution continues

Three more people were reported killed due to the combined effects of the southwest monsoon (habagat), Super Typhoon “Carina” and Tropical Depression “Butchoy”, raising the death toll to 39.
In its latest situational report on Tuesday, July 30, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that the three new fatalities were recorded in Calabarzon (Region 4A). A total of 13 people died in the region, the second highest in the NDRRMC’s tally.
Fifteen people were killed in the National Capital Region (NCR); four in Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9); two each in Central Luzon (Region 3) and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM); and one apiece in Ilocos (Region 1), Northern Mindanao (Region 10), and Davao (Region 11).
The victims died either due to landslides, drowning, electrocution, or fallen debris.
Meanwhile, six persons were reported missing: three in Calabarzon, two in Ilocos Region, and one in Northern Mindanao. Nine persons were also injured in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Cagayan Valley (Region 2), and Northern Mindanao.
The number of people who were affected by the three weather disturbances also increased to 4,839,002 (1,317,111 families).
But for the third consecutive day, the number of displaced persons went down from 794,000 to 732,000 as tens of thousands of evacuees returned to their homes after the floods subsided.
To date, 64 road sections and seven bridges were still not passable to the public due to flooding or damage. Nearly half of them were in Ilocos Region with 31 roads still not accessible to motorists.
The NDRRMC continues to address the needs of the typhoon victims to help them recover as soon as possible.
It said a total of P321,565,026.8 worth of relief assistance was distributed to the victims nationwide. The figure was adjusted by the NDRRMC from its previous report of P3.4 billion.
