BMW Motorrad Philippines presents the latest additions to its Heritage line of models, the R12 and R12 NineT.

The two new models are hopes to further expand the options in the Heritage line of models. The new R12 is a classic roadster that hopes to make a stylish impression in urban environments as well as provide dynamic riding fun on winding country roads. The R12 NineT, meanwhile, was conceived to follow in the footsteps of the R NineT and carry forward its archetypal look.

Refining the NineT series

Both models boast of a boxer engine and design language of traditional motorcycle eras. Of course, they still bear innovative technology and a modular concept. Reduction to the essentials and attention to detail were the key priorities in their development

The same 1,170cc air/oil-cooled boxer engine powers both models. It comes with a new, fully integrated airbox under the seat and a new left-mounted twin-flow exhaust system. Both are built on a tubular bridge steel spaceframe.

R12

The R12 has a steel tank reminiscent of the "Toaster Tanks" of the 1970s BMW /5 models. This is to give it a classic teardrop shape expected of a cruiser. It forms a descending line in combination with the solo seat and curved, low-mounted rear wheel cover.

A large 19-inch front wheel and a small 16-inch rear wheel complement this harmoniously. The classic cruiser design is also reflected in the relaxed seating position with a low height and wide handlebars. The seat height is just 754 mm.

The R12 produces 95-hp and 110 Nm of torque. Helping the rider reign that power in are Roll and Rock riding modes.

The R12 nineT comes with an aluminum tank. It combines with the seat and tail-hump to create a rising dynamic line. It boasts of improved ergonomics thanks to 30mm shorter and narrower fuel tank in the rear.

The frame differs from the R NineT series by eliminating the need for the previous front and rear main frames, reducing the weight and giving them a cleaner and more classic appearance. The rear frame of the R12 NineT, also made of tubular steel, is bolted to the main frame.

The results in bringing the rider is closer to the handlebars and giving him better knee contact. It's a more front-oriented seating position. The front fork is fully adjustable and the perfect settings can be dialed in. The seat height is just 795 mm.
