Suspected private armed group member falls in QC

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Police arrested a suspected member of a potential Private Armed Group in Cagayan Valley in Cubao, Quezon City on July 1.

Benjie, 42, of the Babaran Group was nabbed on a warrant of arrest issued in June last year.

The suspect, of Baggao, Cagayan, faces a case for violation of Republic Act 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act, with a P120,000 bail, and Republic Act 9516 or the law amending Presidential Decree 1866 on illegal possession of firearms.

Lawmen said the Babaran Group allegedly operates in the province of Isabela.

“Your swift and decisive actions have led to the apprehension of a dangerous individual who poses a threat to the peace and security of our region," Police Regional Office-2 chief Police Brig. Gen. Christopher Birung said.

PPAGs are unauthorized armed groups or individuals operating outside of the law.

They possess firearms and weapons without proper authorization and may engage in illegal activities such as militancy, insurgency, or criminal activities.
