China has told the Philippines to take measures to protect its nationals after report of the killing of two Chinese citizens in the country.
Mao Ning, spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, made the appeal after a Chinese national was reportedly kidnapped and killed in the Philippines.
The Chinese Embassy in Manila already got in touch with Filipino authorities regarding the incident and provided support for the victim’s family.
“The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines…urged it to make every possible effort to work on the case and take effective measures to protect the safety of Chinese nationals in the Philippines,” Mao said.
On June 24, a Chinese national and a Chinese-American associated with the medical device industry were kidnapped for ransom.
Despite their families paying the ransom money, the perpetrators killed them. Their remains were eventually discovered.
Mao said the Foreign Ministry will work with relevant departments to provide instructions to its embassy to closely follow up on the case and make sure everything is properly handled.
