The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday, June 3, it received reports of its email data being sold online.
“The Department’s Information and Communications Technology Division is investigating the matter,” it added.
On Wednesday, a group of cybersecurity enthusiasts claimed that a "threat actor," who identified himself as "chengyi," managed to breach into the data of DFA and posted on a dark web forum that DFA's emails are for sale.
"The post included a sample download link and contact information, indicating the data could be updated regularly," the group Deep Web Konek said.
"The said breach happened sometime in June 2024 as per the threat actor. This alarming development suggests ongoing access to the DFA’s email systems," it added.
