P200-M relief aid provided to flood-hit families — DSWD
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided humanitarian aid totaling P200 million to families and individuals affected by typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon (habagat).
DSWD-Disaster Response and Management Group (DRMG) Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said on Monday, July 29 that the P200 million in aid includes food, non-food items, and financial assistance for the affected populations in the National Capital Region, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Cordillera Administrative Region.
DSWD’s impact assessment of the twin weather disturbances also identified 1,892 damaged houses, with 168 totally destroyed and 1,724 partially damaged.
In Bicol Region, DSWD-Field Office 5 continued its distribution of cash aid through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program on Sunday, July 28).
AICS is for families in Sipocot, Camarines Sur, affected by flooding from the disasters.
Three families with totally damaged houses received P10,000 each, while two families with partially damaged houses were granted P5,000 each.
“Our field offices also continue to coordinate with concerned local government units to identify the other needs of the affected families vital to their recovery,” Dumlao said.
