Senior Deputy Speaker Pampanga 3rd district Rep. Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales Jr. says elected congressmen like himself usually make do with just two security personnel. 

Gonzales shared this during a press conference Tuesday, July 30 as he chimed in on the issue of bodyguards involving Vice President Sara Duterte. 

"Kami rin mga congressman minsan dalawa lang yung mga security namin, umiikot kami sa mga distrito, minsan ipu-pull out po yung mga security namin wala po kaming magagawa kasi meron silang pag gagamitan na iba," said the high-ranking solon. 

(Sometimes, we congressmen only have two security personnel, we make our rounds within the districts, sometimes our security gets pulled out and we can't do anything about it because they're given different assignment.) 

Vice President Duterte has blasted the Philippine National Police (PNP) over its decision to remove 75 personnel from her police security detail. She claimed that the move was a form of "harassment" against her, and that it stemmed from "politics". 

But Gonzales said that the recall of security personnel does happen from time to time. 

"So, we have to understand that situation po sana 'di ba (right)?" he said. 

"So, kami po talaga minsan, dumarating sa amin meron kaming importanteng pupuntahan sa liblib na barangay ay hindi pwedeng hindi po kami pumunta pero nagkakataon po na pag minsan yung pinaka-boss nila, [they recall the security detail], e po wala kami magagawa. 

(Sometimes there are cases when we need to go to a remote place that's too important for us to skip, but sometimes the security detail gets recalled by their boss, we can't do anything about that.) 

"So, we have to respect that po," Gonzales said. 

Reports said that Vice President Duterte still has 31 PNP personnel as part of her security team.
