At least 165 public schools in Bulacan have postponed the opening of classes scheduled on Monday, July 29, due to the effects of the southwest monsoon and Typhoon Carina.
The Department of Education (DepEd) Region III said the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Carina left some 452 public schools in Central Luzon still inundated in flood waters.
In the province of Bulacan alone, out of the 57 public schools in the City of Malolos, 48 were affected by the postponement of the opening of classes; 32 in the City of Meycauayan; 19 in Hagonoy; 18 in Calumpit; 11 in Marilao; nine in Obando; nine in Paombong; eight in Balagtas; six in Bocaue; four in Guiguinto; and one in Bulakan town.
The schools that have been cleaned will start classes either on Tuesday, July 30, or Wednesday, July 31, while schools that are still housing evacuees will begin their classes on August 1 and 5.
However, for the schools in Baliwag City, San Jose Del Monte City, and the municipalities of Angat, Bustos, Dona Remedios Trinidad, Norzagaray, Pandi, Plaridel, Pulilan, Sta Maria, San Rafael, San Ildefonso, and San Miguel, the opening of classes pushed through as scheduled on Monday, July 29.
Typhoon Carina's widespread damage in Bulacan prompted the provincial government to declare a state of calamity.
