INDANG, Cavite -- Senator Francis Tolentino will be the guest of honor and speaker during the formal opening of the Luzon Qualifying Leg of the 2nd Philippine Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Games at the Cavite State University (CvSU) here Sunday, July 27.
Sen. Tolentino, the “Father of the ROTC Games" for school cadets, will declare the official opening of the event.
CvSU president Hernando D. Robles will give the welcome remarks, while Tagaytay City Mayor Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino and Senate President Francis Escudero will deliver inspirational messages.
Cadets from the Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, and Philippine Air Force will kick off opening-day action with a grand parade at 6:30 a.m., followed by a silent drill, cultural dance, and aircraft fly-by in the event supported by the Department of National Defense, Commission on Higher Education, and Philippine Sports Commission.
Marathon champion Cpl. Richard Solano will lead the lighting of the cauldron, while super featherweight titlist PFC Charly Suarez will lead the oath of sportsmanship.
From seven events in the first ROTC Games in 2023, the number of sports disciplines has increased to 14 for this year’s school cadets of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
These include arnis, athletics, 3x3 basketball, boxing, chess, e-sports, kickboxing, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, target shooting, volleyball, and raiders competition.
Arnis, athletics, chess, table tennis, volleyball, and raiders competition will be held at the CvSU Indang Campus.
Boxing and kickboxing will take place at the Tagaytay Combat Sports Center, sepak takraw at Sigtuna Hall, and 3x3 basketball at Robinsons Tagaytay Basketball Court and City College of Tagaytay.
Meanwhile, the swimming competition will be held at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas; target shooting at Camp Riego de Dios in Tanza; and taekwondo at the Tolentino Sports Complex and Activity Center in Tanza.
The Visayas Leg of the ROTC Games was held in Bacolod City last May 26 to June 1, and the Mindanao Leg in Zamboanga City last June 23 to 29.
The National Championship is scheduled for August 18 to 24 in Indang, Cavite.
