BACOLOD CITY – A 28-year-old Special Weapons and Tactics police officer passed away in a hospital on Friday, July 26, five days after he accidentally shot himself in Barangay Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on July 21.
Police Capt. Honey Labaro, deputy chief of the San Carlos Police Station, confirmed on Sunday, July 28, that the victim, whose name was withheld, died around 8:36 a.m. in a private hospital here due to brain trauma.

The lawman was wounded when his Glock 17 9mm caliber pistol hit his jaw and accidentally pulled the trigger while about to transfer his service firearm to his sling bag.
The victim was visiting his girlfriend in her house before heading home from work when the incident happened.
He was taken to a hospital here and underwent surgery. He was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) where he died.
His remains will be taken to his residence in Isabela town, Negros Occidental.
