Start of classes on July 29 postponed in 1,063 schools — DepEd

Classes in over a thousand schools will not start on July 29 as they continue to conduct clean-up and rehabilitation activities in the aftermath of “Carina” and the “habagat.”

Latest data from the Department of Education (DepEd) as of July 27 show that 1,063 schools will postpone their openings.

The regions where schools will postpone their July 29 openings include the National Capital Region (NCR), Region 1, Region III, Region IV-A, and Region XIII.

Here are the regions with the number of schools postponing their openings on July 29: NCR (225 schools); Ilocos Region (310 schools); Central Luzon (457 schools); Calabarzon (67 schools); and SOCCSKSARGEN (4).

DepEd said its Central Office has already notified the regional directors and schools through their respective school division superintendents.

The Regional Offices, DepEd added, will continue to validate the number of schools that will not open on July 29.

To avoid disrupting the education of learners, DepEd said flood-free schools with minimal damage will open as scheduled.

Earlier, a teachers’ group urged Local Government Units (LGUs) to “reconsider” the date of school opening in their localities to give citizens, parents, students, and teachers more time to prepare for the school year.
