The all-Filipina team won big in the Esports World Cup after reigning supreme in the MLBB Women Invitational in Riyadh Saudi Arabia on Saturday, July 27.
Omega completed a 3-0 sweep of defending champion Team Vitality from Indonesia to bag the lion's share of the $180,000 prize pool which is approximately P10.8 million.
The quintet of Gwyneth “Ayanami” Diagon, Kaye “Keishi” Alpuerto, Rica “Amoree” Amores, “ Sheen “Shinoa” Perez and Mery “Meraaay” Vivero went off to a good start in the grand finals picking up quick victories in the first two games before fending off tough stand from the two-time titlists in Game 3.
The Filipinas were methodical in the first two games, drawing first blood in a low scoring 6-2 kill in just 11 minutes of play before reaching championship point in Game 2 following a 10-6 victory.
Keishi dazzled on the jungle in both games, setting the tone in Game 1 with a 2-0-3 line on the Nolan pick before following it up with an even more impressive 7-0-2 tally on the Roger.
OMGE, though, had to face an inspired rally from the Indonesians who were looking to revive their title retention hopes.
After another slow start, Team Vitality seemed to finally get its bearings going after successfully defending a Lord siege from the Filipinos.
A huge clash at the 25th minute mark of the contest, however, proved to be the killing blow as OMGE took down three heroes from Team Vitality. That was the opening the Filipinas needed to finally claim the crown that had eluded the team in the first two editions of the tournament.
