PAGASA: Rainy start to classes in some areas due to LPA, 'habagat'
The opening of classes for public schools for School Year 2024-2025 may be marked by scattered rains across parts of the country on Monday, July 29, based on the weather forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
PAGASA said a low pressure area (LPA) and the southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” will be the dominant weather systems in the country.
At of 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 28, the LPA was located 440 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda said that while the LPA currently has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression, the weather bureau will continue to monitor it for possible formation in the coming days.
In the next 24 hours, light to heavy rains and thunderstorms may affect Eastern Visayas, Bicol, and Quezon province due to the LPA, while Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan may experience similar conditions due to the habagat.
The habagat may also cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms to Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.
The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA warned of potential flash floods or landslides, especially in areas particularly vulnerable to these hazards.
