OCTA: 83% of Filipinos back ban on POGOs; 85% support anti-online gaming political candidates


Most Filipinos support a nationwide ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOS), based on the OCTA Research’s Second Quarter of 2024 “Tugon ng Masa” survey conducted from June 26 to July 1.

The survey results released on Sunday, July 28, revealed that 83 percent of Filipinos support a nationwide ban on POGOs, while only 12 percent oppose the measure.

Among major areas, OCTA said Balance Luzon, or Luzon outside Metro Manila, has the highest agreement rating for banning POGOs, at 90 percent.

Meanwhile, the National Capital Region has the highest disagreement rating, with 20 percent opposed to the ban.

Regarding socioeconomic class, OCTA said Class D has the highest agreement rating for banning POGOs, at 85 percent, while Class ABC has the highest disagreement rating, with 19 percent opposed to the ban.

Support for candidates opposing POGOs

OCTA also found that 85 percent of Filipinos would support a political candidate advocating for a ban on POGO operations, while only 12 percent would vote for a candidate opposed to the ban.

Among major areas, OCTA said Balance Luzon has the highest voting preference for candidates supporting a ban on POGOs, at 93 percent.

Regarding socioeconomic class, Class D showed the strongest preference for candidates who support the POGO ban, with 87 percent in favor.

The survey, conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 respondents, aged 18 and above nationwide, has a ±3 percent margin of error at a 95 percent confidence level.
