Mayor Honey, Vice Mayor Yul distribute relief aid to 'Carina' victims

Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan and Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto distributed relief items to over 1,000 families affected by the onslaught of typhoon "Carina" from two barangays in Tondo, Manila, over the weekend.
The city government said the assistance comes on top of those who were already given at the evacuation centers.
In her short message, the mayor said she was glad to see the huge smiles on the faces of the residents, noting their resilience in the face of adversity.
“Parang di naman kayo naapektuhan ah. Alam nyo, ‘yan ang maganda sa ating mga Pilipino…hindi nawawalan ng pag-asa (It doesn't seem like you were affected. You know that's the good thing about us Filipinos... we never lose hope),” Lacuna-Pangan said.
“Kahit ang grabe ng nangyari sa atin nitong nakaraang linggo, nakakangiti pa rin tayo. Bakit? Dahil alam natin na meron tayong masasandalan kahit papaano. Alam natin na meron at merong tutulong sa atin (Even with the worst that happened to us this past week, we are still smiling. Why? Because we know we have someone to lean on somehow. We know that there will always be someone who will help us),” she added.
She said the recipients of the relief assistance were comprised of more than 400 families from Barangay 180 Zone 16 under Chairman Oscar Guevarra, Jr.; 400 families from Barangay 186 Zone 16 under Chairperson Amy Aguirre; and at least 250 families from Barangay 177, Zone 16 headed by Chairman Eddie Yu.
During the heavy downpour, Lacuna-Pangan visited the flood-prone areas to ensure that those who needed to be evacuated were moved to a safer place.
She also visited the evacuated families in the schools and covered courts and provided them with their immediate needs.
The mayor said that the aid provided by the local government may be modest but she made sure that everyone is covered.
The city government reported that a total of 4,384 families in Manila were adversely affected by the calamity.
