Korean actor Yoo Ah-in accused of sexually assaulting man

Korean actor Yoo Ah-in, 37, of the films “#Alive” and “Seoul Vibe” has been accused of sexually assaulting a man. 

This is the latest accusation against Yoo Ah-in who is currently facing trial for illegal drug use, which put his career on hold since last year. 

Korean media reported that according to the police on July 27, a complaint was filed against Yoo Ah-in at the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul for sexual assault of a man.

The actor was booked on the charge of quasi-rape or imitative rape. 

Under Article 297-2 on imitative rape of Korea’s Criminal Act, “A person who, by means of violence or intimidation, inserts his or her sexual organ into another's bodily part (excluding a genital organ), such as mouth or anus, or inserts his or her finger or other bodily part (excluding a genital organ) or any instrument into another's genital organ or anus shall be punished by imprisonment for a limited term of at least two years.”

The complaint stated that the complainant fell asleep at 6 a.m. on July 14 in a private residence in Yongsan, Seoul and woke up at 4 p.m. during which time he was sexually assaulted. The report stated that three people were present at the time: the complainant, the landlord and Yoo Ah-in. 

During the police investigation, the complainant said, "After drinking together nearby, we moved to the house of one of the attendees to have a second round and drank more alcohol. Mr. Yoo inserted his private part into my body."

The police investigated the complainant on July 24 on the possibility that the crime was committed under the influence of drugs. A simple drug reagent test came back negative. He will be sent to Sunflower Center, which helps victims of sexual violence, for his DNA test and statement. 

The police will also summon the landlord for questioning. 

Yoo Ah-in’s lawyer denied the allegation, telling Korean media, "We would like to make it clear that the content of the complaint regarding Yoo Ah-in is not true.” 

The star is on trial for habitually administering propofol and other drugs 181 times under the pretense of general anesthesia for cosmetic procedures at hospitals in Seoul from September 2020 and March 2022. 

Last December, Yoo Ah-in admitted using marijuana during the first trial of his case. 

The prosecution has asked a court to impose four years of imprisonment and a fine of two million won (about $1,440) on Yoo Ah-in.
