Flood-hit individuals receive 'cash-for-work' assistance
To assist families and individuals affected by super typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon (habagat), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) facilitated temporary employment through the cash-for-work (CFW) program.
The initiative enabled 200 beneficiaries to engage in the repacking of relief goods for the flood victims.
“As part of the holistic and proactive approach of the department to assist typhoon-affected locals, the DSWD provided cash-for-work assistance as a temporary source of employment to our affected kababayans from nearby areas in Metro Manila. The beneficiaries are helping in the repacking of family food packs at the National Resource Operations Center,” DSWD Assistant Secretary for Disaster Response Management Group (DRMG) and Spokesperson Irene Dumlao said.
The first batch of beneficiaries provided cash-for-work service on Saturday, July 27, while another batch of 100 beneficiaries performed similar duties on Sunday, July 28, at the agency’s main disaster response hub in Pasay City.
Each beneficiary will receive a daily wage in accordance with the Regional Daily Minimum Wage Rate applicable to the project area.
