The affected communities in the Bangsamoro region also received help from the EU in the Philippines.
“This past week, Typhoon Gaemi and the southwest monsoon brought torrential rains causing flooding in various parts of the (Philippines),” EU Ambassador to the Philippines Luc Veron said on Sunday, July 28.
“The EU through @eu_echo with partners @oxfamph and @HInclusionph, provided relief to vulnerable communities in Bangsamoro and Camanava in Metro Manila,” he wrote on X, using hashtags #CarinaPH and #EUinPH.
Using the “CNPHHandinHandForABetterTomorrow”, Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian announced the delivery of relief goods to their “Filipino friends.”
“In response to the onslaught of Typhoon #CarinaPH, the Chinese Embassy in collaboration with the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., have donated 3,500 relief packages worth over 3.5 million pesos to families in need,” he said.
Each of the package contained rice, canned food, and noodles, and “aims to provide immediate relief to those affected by the disaster.”
The first batch of relief packs were given to residents in Manila.
“We hope these humble donations would be of help to those families in need. #Handinhand, we stand together in trying times, and pray for early resumption of normal life in the affected areas,” Huang said.
Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon swept through the National Capital Region (NCR), Region III, and Calabarzon last week.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said last Friday that the combined effect of the two phenomenons impacted the lives of 1.3 million people, with 211,000 displaced and currently staying in evacuation centers across the country.
