BACOLOD CITY – A 35-year-old man who ran amok was shot and wounded by a responding police officer in Purok Orchids, Barangay Haba, Candoni, Negros Occidental on Friday, July 26.
Police Major Ruel Culanag, Candoni police chief, said that policemen responded to a call for assistance when the suspect, who was reportedly armed with a bolo and a screw driver, was threatening people in the area.

Police warned the suspect to drop his weapons and asked him to surrender. However, the suspect allegedly attacked one of the responding policemen with a bolo.
The policeman tried moving away from the suspect to avoid the attack, but the suspect continued to chase and assault him until the lawman was cornered.
The policeman shot the suspect in his leg to neutralize him. However, a bystander was hit and wounded in the stomach when a bullet ricocheted.
Police recovered the suspect’s weapons. The suspect and the bystander were referred to the Kabankalan City District Hospital.
Culanag said that both of them have been discharged from the hospital. He said the suspect will be charged with direct assault.
