In its latest media bulletin, DepEd announced that 1,002 schools will delay their openings on July 29 due to widespread flooding caused by Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon (habagat).

DepEd stated that the adjustment in the school opening dates will be used for “clean-up and rehabilitation activities.”

The regions where schools will postpone their July 29 openings include the National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and SOCCSKSARGEN.

August school opening

Most of the affected schools plan to start their classes next month.

In NCR, a total of 225 schools will open after July 29.

Schools in the cities of Malabon, Pasig, Marikina, and Valenzuela will open on August 5.

August 5 will also be the adjusted school opening date for two schools in Navotas; five schools in Manila; 13 schools in San Juan; and 15 schools in Quezon City.

In Region I, a total of 331 schools will open after July 29 but not later than August 5.

In Region III, 442 schools will open after July 29, including 208 schools in Bataan; two in Balanga; 92 in Bulacan; all 20 schools in Meycauayan; 48 in Malolos; 51 in Pampanga; one in San Jose City; and 20 in Tarlac Province.

In Region XII, four schools near Liguasan Marsh in Cotabato Province will open on August 5.

DepEd said its Regional Offices will continue to validate the number of schools that will not open next week.

Meanwhile, DepEd reiterated that flood-free schools with minimal damage will open as scheduled to “avoid disrupting the education of our young learners.”
