Farmer hacked dead over irrigation water


CERVANTES, Ilocos Sur – A farmer was allegedly hacked to death by a fellow farmer during a heated altercation over irrigation water in Barangay San Juan, this town, on Thursday, July 25.

Police identified the victim as Dante B. Valdez, 50.

Investigation disclosed that the suspect, Ariel A. Agcon, 36, reprimanded Valdez for taking water from an irrigation canal for his rice field that was not included in the list of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

A heated altercation erupted and Agcon hit the victim’s back with a hard object. 

The victim pulled out a bolo but the suspect grabbed the bladed weapon and hacked the victim several times in the body.

Valdez was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Agcon was arrested by the police after the incident.
