DepEd: Nearly 19 million learners enrolled for School Year 2024-2025

Flood-free schools set to begin classes on July 29


Almost 19 million students have enrolled for School Year (SY) 2024-2025, according to enrollment figures released by the Department of Education (DepEd) on Saturday, July 27.

DepEd’s Planning Service – Education Management Information System, in its Enrollment Monitoring Report for SY 2024-2025, recorded a total of 18,996,365 learners already enrolled in formal and non-formal education.

Of these, 16,561,059 students are enrolled in public schools, while 2,207,941 learners are in private schools.

A total of 23,854 learners are enrolled in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) and Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) that offer basic education.

The Alternative Learning System (ALS) also recorded 203,501 enrollees.

Across all sectors, DepEd data showed that the Elementary Level has the highest number of enrollees, with 10,341,997. Of this number, 9,638,079 elementary learners are enrolled in public schools, 701,452 in private schools, and 2,466 in SUCs/LUCs.

Grades 7 to 10, or Junior High School (JHS), has a total enrollment of 5,779,363, with 5,050,758 enrolled in public schools, 715,971 in private schools, and 12,634 in SUCs/LUCs.

Grades 11 and 12, or Senior High School (SHS), has recorded 2,671,504 enrollees. Of this number, 1,872,222 students are enrolled in public schools, 790,518 in private schools, and 8,764 in SUCs/LUCs.

Region IV-A has recorded the highest number of enrollees with 2,811,458, followed by Region III with 2,194,185, and the National Capital Region with 2,068,568.

The enrollment period in all public schools was scheduled from July 3 to 26.

Meanwhile, latest data from DepEd showed a total of 1,002 schools will postpone their scheduled start of classes next week, moving their openings to August.

DepEd said the schools confirmed to postpone their openings on July 29 will conduct clean-up and rehabilitation activities following “Carina” and the “habagat.”

For flood-free schools with minimal damage, DepEd has instructed them to open as scheduled to avoid “disrupting the education of our young learners.”

Preliminary data from the Learner Information System (LIS) as of January 2024 show that there are 47,831 public schools for SY 2023-2024. In the same school year, DepEd recorded a total of 27,621,799 enrollees for basic education.
