Typhoon “Carina” has shut down the operation of the Cainta Extension Office of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) due to massive flooding that damaged its computers and other documents.

LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said a massive clean-up is already ongoing and assured that all the assistance will be extended for the temporary location site of the Cainta Extension Office in a bid to cushion the impact of the temporary closure of the office.

“I have already directed the LTO Regional Director of Calabarzon to find a temporary office where the equipment and other documents would be temporarily relocated,” said Mendoza.

“The Cainta Extension Office will be temporarily closed in a few days until such time that our personnel there are able to find a temporary relocation site and resume the operation for our clients in the area,” he added.

In a report submitted by LTO-Calabarazon Regional Director Elmer Decena, 80 percent of the equipment were damaged by the flood while 90 percent of the records for disposal were soaked into floodwater.

All computers being used for examinations were damaged while 20 percent of the files in the extension office were also drenched in floodwater. The bottom part of the engraver machine was also drenched.

Widespread flooding hit Metro Manila and other nearby provinces, the flood reached as high as the roof of bungalow type houses in some areas.

Decena said the flooding hit the LTO Cainta Extension Office on July 24 at the height of the heavy downpour unleashed by “Carina”.

Mendoza, for his part, directed satellite and extension offices near Cainta to accommodate the clients from the town and nearby areas until such time that the operation of the extension office returns to normal.

“We also directed all Regional Directors and District Office heads to submit the damage report in the soonest possible time so that we would be able to download the necessary assistance in the soonest possible time,” said Mendoza.
